Rohožník Cement Plant Awarded the EcoVadis Gold Medal for Sustainability

The Danucem cement plant in Rohožník has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainable development and corporate responsibility. It was recently awarded the prestigious Gold Medal in the international EcoVadis sustainability assessment, placing it among the top 5% of the most sustainable companies worldwide. This achievement proves that even heavy industry can be a strong example of environmental and social responsibility with a tangible impact.

EcoVadis – A Global Benchmark for Sustainability

EcoVadis is one of the most respected global platforms for assessing corporate sustainability. Its evaluation focuses on four key pillars: environmental protection, labor practices, ethical business conduct, and responsible supply chain management. Receiving the Gold Medal in such a rigorous assessment reflects Danucem’s exceptional commitment to quality and responsibility across all areas of its operations.

Environmentally Friendly Production Driven by Innovation

Danucem has long invested in modern, environmentally friendly technologies. Key initiatives include the use of alternative fuels, recycling of waste materials, and continuous optimization of production processes to reduce the company’s carbon footprint. For example, replacing fossil fuels with alternative fuels significantly reduces CO₂ emissions. The plant also actively reduces water consumption and supports projects aimed at restoring local ecosystems, such as tree planting, wetland revitalization, and biodiversity protection.

A True Community Partner

Sustainability at Danucem goes beyond environmental efforts. The company is a cornerstone of the Rohožník community and its surroundings, actively supporting local initiatives. These include modernizing sports facilities, sponsoring cultural events, providing environmental education, and cooperating with municipal authorities to improve public spaces and infrastructure.

Leadership and Teamwork Behind the EcoVadis Project

The success in obtaining the EcoVadis certification is the result of dedicated teamwork. The project was led by Karolina Rułka, Sales Representative for white cement in the Polish and Ukrainian markets, who coordinated the collaboration between the Danucem team and EcoVadis specialists. Her leadership and cooperation with colleagues were crucial to achieving the certification.

The Gold Medal as a Commitment for the Future

“Receiving the EcoVadis award is a great honor for us and a confirmation that our efforts truly matter. We thank all our employees whose dedication turns our vision into reality. This Gold Medal motivates us to continue seeking new ways to reduce our environmental impact and support our community,” says Jozef Marušík, Commercial Director for Cement and Anhydrite.

As one of the most modern cement plants in Central and Eastern Europe, Danucem plans to continue investing in ecological innovations. The EcoVadis Gold Medal demonstrates that even large industrial enterprises can operate responsibly and with respect for nature and people – sending a positive message to the entire region and beyond.
