In Slovakia, roughly half of communal waste still ends up in dumps and landfills, representing a serious environmental challenge. One of the most effective solutions for reversing this trend is use of alternative fuels – i.e. fuels produced from waste that would otherwise end up in the landfill.
In Danucem, we are actively engaged in the transformation to a circular economy, where waste becomes a valuable raw material. Alternative fuels replace fossil energy sources in cement production, by which we not only decrease CO₂ emissions, but we also conserve natural resources such as coal or oil.
These fuels are derived from various types of waste – from non-recyclable plastics to textile and even used tyres or motor oil. Thanks to their use, the amount of waste that would otherwise contaminate the landscape is decreasing, while the energy efficiency of industrial production is increasing.
Our vision is a future without landfills – and alternative fuels are one of the key instruments for achieving this vision.
